Sound settings in your Operating System can cause volume or voice chat issues in Blizzard Games. The troubleshooting below may help resolve these types of issues.

 

Check System and Application Volume in Volume Mixer

  1. Launch the game or application you are having problems with
  2. After the application launches, press Alt+Tab to get back to your desktop
  3. Press Windows+R
  4. Type sndvol.exe into the run prompt, then press Enter
  5. Slide the volume slider for your speakers or headset to the bottom position
  6. Slide the volume slider for your speakers or headset back to your preferred volume
  7. Repeat this for the application you are having problems with

Check Default Devices

  1. Press Windows+R
  2. Type mmsys.cpl into the run prompt, then press Enter
  3. Ensure that your speakers or headset show as the Default Device
  4. If this is not the case, right click the device and choose Set as Default Device
  5. If you are having problems with Voice Chat, right click the device and choose Set as Default Communications Device
  6. If you are having problems with Voice Chat, Click the Recording tab
  7. Repeat Steps 3-5 for your microphone or headset

Disable Exclusive Control

  1. Press Windows+R
  2. Type mmsys.cpl into the run prompt, then press Enter
  3. Right click your speakers or headset and select Properties
  4. Click the Advanced tab
  5. Uncheck the box for Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device
  6. Click Apply, then OK
  7. If you are having problems with Voice Chat, Click the Recording tab
  8. Repeat steps 3-6 for your microphone or headset

 

 

Check System Volume

  1. Click the magnifying glass in the top right of your menu bar
  2. Search for Sound and press Return
  3. Click the Output tab and ensure that the Output Volume slider is set correctly and that the Mute box is not checked
  4. If you are having trouble with Voice Chat, click the Input tab and ensure that the Input Volume slider is set correct
  5. If you are still having trouble, try toggling the setting for Use ambient noise reduction
